Association

Founded in 1978, TQHA is the largest AQHA affiliate.

The Texas Quarter Horse Association (TQHA) began in 1978 and is the largest American Quarter Horse affiliate. Located in Elgin, Texas, the association promotes and encourages ownership of the world’s most versatile athlete, the American Quarter Horse. TQHA offers youth, amateur and professional horseman the opportunity to gain leadership, knowledge and experience.

TQHA Mission Statement

To be the leadership organization for the state’s American Quarter Horse owners and industry related businesses, as well as serve as the official registrar for the Accredited Texas-bred awards program. The TQHA will provide the highest quality representation, education, programs and services to its youth, amateur and professional members in all areas of competition, while promoting involvement with and ownership of the American Quarter Horse in Texas.

TQHA cares deeply that the American Quarter Horse is treated humanely, with dignity, respect, and compassion at all times.

Racing

The TQHA has a longstanding and successful racing program. The state is home to one of the industry’s richest races, the $1,000,000 Texas Classic Futurity [G1] as well as many other respected stakes races.

Texas-Bred Program

The TQHA Race Division offers an exceptional opportunity for owners and breeders of AQHA registered horses, eligible for the TQHA Accredited Bred Program to earn annual Breeders Awards.

Race Experience

The TQHYA Race Experience is held in conjunction with the TQHA Yearling Sale in San Antonio, Texas, the last weekend in July. Participants get an inside view of the racing industry, tour the backside and racing facility, and maybe be in a WIN photo! Youth ages 14-18 may apply. Youth will stay in San Antonio and assist with the sale on Friday and Saturday and attend the races at Retama Park on Friday evening.

Showing

The TQHA show department promotes Texas Amateur, Open, and Youth Exhibitors as well as our Regional Texas Affiliates in ownership and activity of American Quarter Horses. The association not only produces and participates in various shows within the state but also approves close to 50 AQHA shows hosted within the state by area Texas Affiliates. Points earned at these shows are used towards year-end awards as well as qualifying for the AQHA Youth World!
*Only TQHA approved shows count towards TEAM TEXAS Youth World qualification and Year-End Awards.

Barrel Racing

The barrel racing industry is one of the fastest-growing sports in our nation, and we are proud to have the opportunity to promote our state and breeding program through the TQHA Incentive Events that reflect the amazing stallions that are part of our program.

Foundation

The TQHA Foundation promotes the Texas Quarter Horse Association and its various initiatives through education/scholarships, research and charitable works for the horse industry in Texas. Please consider supporting our youth members and programs.

Legislation

State laws can often have a major impact on the Texas horse industry and agriculture overall. The Texas Legislature determines issues from tax policy (sales, property and franchise) as well as access to water and land.

Whether you are young or old, have a need for speed or a passion for competitive showing, or just love to ride across Texas’ many majestic landscapes, membership in the Texas Quarter Horse Association is for you!
